A new seat belt law goes into effect Tuesday, June 30. The bill was signed into law in May by Governor Charlie Crist. This new law will allow police to pull over motorists for not wearing their seat belts and to issue $30 tickets for it.

Police have previously only been able to cite motorists not wearing their seat belts if they were pulled over for other reasons. The new law will hopefully reduce the number of traffic fatalities across the state.

Late Saturday night, a crash occurred involving 4 motorcycles. The motorcycles were on Bayside Bridge around 11pm when one of them started to brake and caused the motorcycles to run into one another.

The 4 drivers and passenger were all injured and taken to  Bayfront Medical Center. One of them had to be air lifted to the hospital. Of the five, four suffered serious injuries and one suffered minor injuries.

A fire occurred at 10:15am this morning in Seminole. The fire was caused by two children playing with a lighter and accidentally setting a mattress on fire. Fire fighters arrived at the scene and had the blaze under control soon after.

The family was able to escape the fire with only minor injuries. However, the apartment was described as being completely gutted and unsalvagable. There were no injuries to the family who resided in the adjacent apartment.

On Tuesday morning, an ice cream truck rolled over along a highway in Tampa Bay. The truck was traveling along southbound I-275 near the Howard-Armenia exit when it rolled over around 10:40am.

The ice cream truck was empty at the time of the crash and there were no other vehicles involved. The driver did not sustain any injuries. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined by investigators.

Late Sunday morning, a crash occurred along CR 475 near CR 314. A woman traveling southbound along CR 475 veered onto the shoulder and over corrected, crossing into the northbound lanes and striking an oncoming vehicle.

The woman’s SUV rolled onto its side, injuring her and her 3 year old passenger. A passenger in the northbound pickup truck was killed in the collision and the driver was seriously injured. The three injured parties were taken to seperate hospitals for treatment.
